Wet Wood/ left out to dry

March 7th - April 19th

‘Wet wood’ or ‘left out to dry’ directly examines contemporary depictions of nature and climate, through both environmental anxiety, traditional reconnection, and an emerging alternate futurist lens.

Via a mix of domestic and scientific experimentation this selection of artists work with, from, and for nature. ‘Wet wood’ explores the human role in environmental intervention within the climate crisis; including research inquiries into Scottish wetlands and waters, and practices seeking traditional, or even neolithic, knowledge.

In the face of over consumption, their creative craft renegotiates the human connection with the natural world. By reclaiming clay, woodworking, and natural pigments, the materials used comfort us with an abundance of life and organisms, yet mourn an ineffable loss. Planetary pots in ceramic solar systems, dystopian photorealistic paintings, and surreal photography build a new world of mutation and oddly playful climate commentary.

Featuring: Melanie Guatelli, Oli Turner, Emily McLatchie, Tally Tunnel, Eilidh Guthrie, Kristina Gondova, Emilia Santaella, Lyndsay McColl, Aimie Harding, and Ella Markell.
