LILY SHEPLEY

Drawing upon surreal children’s literature, such as Leonora Carrington’s The Milk of Dreams, Lily utilises both form and surface to evoke a sense of such narratives, playful and bizarre in nature. She contends with concepts of childhood and nostalgia, our tendency to idealise in retrospect. She further contemplates the nature of nostalgia, how it both embodies sickly regression and soothing comfort, considering ceramic manifestations of such sentimentality, in collectable antiques, preserving a fascination for the romanticized and quaint.
